What is Dysport?

Dysport is a prescription injection that smooths moderate to severe frown lines while allowing you to maintain natural movement of the rest of your face. The active ingredient in Dysport is onabotulinumtoxinA, which temporarily paralyzes specific muscles while allowing the rest of the facial expressions to move naturally. Dysport works well in larger surface areas, such as the forehead, and is fast-acting. The FDA approved Dysport for use in the United States in 2009 and ever since, it has helped many men and women experience a boost in self-confidence.

Benefits of Dysport

  • Treat frown lines without changing the look or movement of the rest of your face
  • One treatment takes 10–20 minutes
  • Over half of Dysport users see results in 2–3 days
  • Results last up to 5 months
  • Minimal downtime

Dysport Procedure, Results, Side Effects

With a Dysport treatment, one injection is placed into five targeted points between and above the eyebrows. The needle used is very fine, so sedation and local anesthetic are not used; however, a topical anesthetic or ice pack may be applied prior to treatment. Each treatment takes between 10 and 20 minutes. Many people stop in for injectable treatment on their lunch break.

After you receive your Dysport injections, we will check your skin to make sure there are no negative reactions and you can return to your normal routine. Dysport injections cover wider treatment areas, so some injections are slightly deeper than BOTOX® injections. We may advise you not to massage the treatment area or to avoid strenuous activity for the remainder of the day.

Results last up to 5 months. Most patients report noticeable improvement within 2 or 3 days after treatment. Side effects from Dysport can include muscle weakness or pain near the injection site, bruising or swelling around the injection site, headache, fever, cough, and sore throat.

Frequently Asked Questions: Dysport

What’s the difference between BOTOX and Dysport?

BOTOX and Dysport contain the same active ingredient and can reduce the appearance of wrinkles. However, they are two products with several key differences. Dysport is more diluted than BOTOX, which means more Dysport may be needed to treat a certain area. Because of the differences in concentrations, Dysport works great for larger areas like the forehead, as it spreads quickly and evenly, whereas BOTOX works well for small areas like lip lines or fine wrinkles.

What’s cheaper, BOTOX or Dysport?

Because Dysport is more diluted, many people think that requiring more units means it will be more expensive. However, the price per unit of Dysport is often cheaper than BOTOX, so they both end up costing about the same per treatment.

What’s the difference between BOTOX and Dysport?

If you do not repeat Dysport treatment about every 3–5 months, your muscles will eventually start contracting like they did before treatment. It is safe to stop Dysport treatment at any time and when you are ready to resume, simply contact your specialist at Carolinas Center for Cosmetic Surgery.

What’s the difference between BOTOX and Dysport?

Ideal candidates are those between the ages of 18 and 65 in good overall health who are unhappy with wrinkles or lines in the forehead area. Dysport is a great option for both men and women who have moderate to severe glabellar lines (frown lines).
