Full Arch Restoration
Full-arch restoration is a transformative procedure for patients with severe tooth loss or decay. At Carolinas Center for Oral & Facial Surgery, our multidisciplinary team uses industry-leading techniques and utmost precision to deliver a healthier, more functional smile to your upper arch, lower arch, or both.
Love the Way You Smile
If your life has become less enjoyable due to missing multiple teeth, no teeth, or significantly damaged teeth, the best option may be full-arch restoration. Using as few as four dental implant posts to secure a complete upper or lower prosthesis, patients can enjoy improved oral health and function. Removable dentures and bridges sit on top of the bony ridge in the mouth and do not stimulate the jaw. They must also be replaced every few years; many patients find their maintenance cumbersome. Fixed dentures, through full-arch restoration, remain a permanent part of your smile and do not need to be removed during eating or brushing. When you restore your smile using dental implants, you take positive steps toward restoring and protecting your oral health.
Benefits of Full Arch Restoration

A complete arch replacement using a natural-looking prosthesis significantly enhances aesthetics and functionality for individuals with missing teeth.
Long Lasting Results
Full arch dental implants can provide a lasting solution for a lifetime with proper maintenance. By adhering to a routine of regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups, patients can ensure the longevity of their implants.
Alleviate Dental Pain & Decay
Full arch dental implants help alleviate dental pain and reduce the risk of decay. Replacing all missing teeth eliminates discomfort and prevents bacterial buildup, promoting better oral health and comfort.
Prevents Bone Loss
Bone loss from missing teeth can also lead to facial sagging, which can accelerate with aging. By using full-arch dental implants, both facial aesthetics and jawbone density can be preserved.

The Journey of Full Arch Replacement: From Initial Consultation to Recovery
At Carolinas Center for Oral & Facial Surgery, our highly skilled oral surgeons and prosthodontists specialize in full arch replacement using dental implants. They utilize cutting-edge surgical techniques with exceptional precision and expertise to achieve flawless outcomes. We will guide you through the full arch replacement process, from the initial consultation to your recovery, ensuring you feel informed and prepared to share your beautiful smile once again.
-
The first step is an initial consultation and full dental evaluation with your oral surgeon and prosthodontist. They will take images, evaluate your candidacy for arch replacement, build you a personalized treatment plan, and discuss any concerns or questions you may have about the procedure.
-
Together, your team of experts will create a custom-tailored treatment plan using state-of-the-art 3D imaging technology to create a highly accurate and practical plan to achieve your smile goals.
-
On the day of the procedure, the oral surgeon will extract any remaining teeth in the dental arch that need removal. Many patients choose IV sedation for full-arch restoration, but we will help you choose the right option during your consultation. Then, the surgeon will place as few as four dental implant posts into the jawbone.
-
Once the dental implant posts are secured, the oral surgeon will immediately place your temporary prosthesis so you can leave with a brand-new smile.
-
The following 3-6 months involve healing and osseointegration. During this time, you will have follow-up visits with your team of experts to check on your progression and change your prosthesis as your implants heal.
-
Once the dental implant posts are fully fused to your jawbone, your prosthodontist will place your permanent prosthesis customized to your unique specifications, including tooth shape, color, etc.

Anesthesia Alternatives for a Comfortable Full Arch Replacement
Local Anesthesia
Local anesthesia induces numbness in the specific area where it is applied. It does not interfere with the patient’s awareness, allowing them to stay awake while alleviating any sensations of discomfort. This type of anesthesia is often used for minor medical procedures.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as laughing gas, is a gentle sedative that patients inhale to help reduce anxiety. It does not induce unconsciousness and is used frequently in conjunction with local anesthesia.
IV Sedation
IV sedation is the most popular form of anesthesia for this procedure. This sedation method is delivered directly into the patient’s bloodstream and is frequently utilized for moderate to extensive surgical procedures involving the mouth or face. A common side effect of the medication is amnesia, meaning that many patients don’t recall their procedure afterward.
What Our Patients are Saying

Truly Amazing
My fiancé has recently had both an upper and lower FULL ARCH restoration and the amount of care, consideration & attention every single detail from the doctors and staff has been amazing. Typically, once an operation is complete - patients are “brushed off” in a way and this was never an option for this team. They are truly amazing & we could not recommend them more. Even with some complications, they guarantee everything they do and are 100% there to make you happy and take care of you! We absolutely love these guys!- Maranda D. -
Accommodating Staff
I had a fractured zygomatic arch diagnosed and repaired at the Columbia office. Unfortunately they were out of network and the quoted price was a bit out of my price range. Fortunately a kind woman in the financial department contacted my insurance company and got their designation changed to in-network and got the price dropped to a third of the original cost. The entire staff was professional, sweet and accommodating. Dr. Pham's work was top-notch and quick. Hopefully I never break my face again, but if I do, I'd go there to have it repaired.- P.P.
Frequently Asked Questions About Full Arch Restoration
Untreated tooth loss or decay can lead to many oral health issues. Without a root or dental implant post to stimulate the jawbone, the bone will deteriorate over time in the areas where teeth are missing. Severe bone loss may require costly and complex bone repair surgery in the future.
A prosthodontist is a dental specialist who focuses on restoring and replacing natural teeth. They are specially trained to create prosthetics like crowns, bridges, dentures, and implants to enhance both the function and appearance of a patient’s smile. Prosthodontists have advanced training in restoring damaged teeth and designing dental appliances to replace missing teeth, making them experts in providing comprehensive solutions for patients with complex dental needs.
