If you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your nose, you may qualify for a rhinoplasty procedure. Rhinoplasty is a type of plastic surgery used to address issues with the shape, size, or structure of your nose. The goal is to correct any malformations and bring your nose into proportion with your other facial features.

If you’ve decided to undergo rhinoplasty, it’s perfectly natural to feel a sense of excitement about your anticipated results. However, it’s important to understand that your final results won’t be immediately noticeable. You’ll need to exercise a bit of patience before you can fully appreciate the transformation of your new look.

Why Rhinoplasty Results are Not Immediately Visible

Following your surgical procedure, you can anticipate significant swelling and bruising. While the majority of your swelling should subside within a few days, some minor swelling may linger for multiple weeks, delaying your final results.

You will have some sense of your results when the dressings are removed, which may be within a week or so. For a full sense of what your new nose looks like, it may take as long as four months to a year. We encourage patience, as virtually everyone who sees us for rhinoplasty ends up being extremely satisfied with their final outcome.

How to Expedite Rhinoplasty Results

There are a few things you can do to help speed along your recovery, making your results more evident more quickly. Some of our suggestions include:

  • For the first two to three days after surgery, use ice and cold compresses to help reduce swelling.
  • Avoid vigorous exercise for the first six weeks but do get up and take a walk each day. A little blood circulation is needed for a rapid recovery.
  • Ensure you get plenty of nourishment by eating plenty of nutritious foods during your recovery.
  • Avoid spicy foods, which can have inflammatory effects that prolong your swelling.
  • Follow all of the aftercare and instruction guidelines provided by your surgeon, and contact our practice directly if you have any questions.
