Ashley Tankersley, DMD

Ashley Tankersley, DMD

Dr. Ashley Tankersley comes from a family of medical professionals: her dad is oral surgeon Dr. James Tankersley and her mom is an anesthesiologist. When she was in dental school, she became interested in complex surgeries and was inspired to follow in her father’s footsteps and become an oral surgeon.

Devoted to helping others, Dr. Tankersley takes part in mission work nationally and internationally. As a medical professional, she feels it is her duty to give back and enjoys being of service to those who do not have access to dental care or cannot afford it. Dr. Tankersley is also a mentor for women in oral surgery, working with dental students interested in pursuing the oral surgery specialty.

Education and Residency

Dr. Tankersley graduated from Clemson University with a BS in Biological Sciences and received her DMD from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine. She completed a 2-year general dentistry residency at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC, and continued her education through an internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). She was later accepted into the residency program at UMMC, where only 2 residents are selected each year. During this time, she gained experience in a hospital-based setting in orthognathic surgery, maxillofacial trauma, dental implant reconstruction, cleft lip/palate surgery, TMJ surgery, and benign and malignant pathology.

Dr. Tankersley is a proud member of many professional organizations, including the American Dental Association (ADA), the South Carolina Dental Association (SCDA), the American Association or Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), and the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ACOMS). She has also contributed work to several publications, including the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
