Oral Pathology
Not every change in your mouth is “just a sore.” While most oral abnormalities are harmless, some require expert evaluation to rule out more serious issues.
Our oral and maxillofacial surgeons diagnose and treat a wide range of oral conditions, diseases, and cancers affecting the mouth, jaws, and surrounding structures. You can count on us for answers, peace of mind, and compassionate care when it matters most.
Diagnosis & Treatment for Oral Diseases & Conditions
When something feels or looks a bit off in your mouth, it’s important to get clear answers.
Our board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons use the most advanced diagnostics and their specialized training in oral pathology to uncover the cause of changes in your mouth.
Along with a thorough clinical examination, our specialists incorporate imaging and biopsy techniques to evaluate and diagnose oral blisters, ulcers, swelling, tumors, cysts, oral cancer, and more, so you can get the right treatment and protect your oral health.

Why Oral Pathology Matters
Changes in your mouth, like sores that don’t heal, unusual lumps, or persistent pain, can be early signs of serious conditions, including oral, gum, and mouth cancer.
Being proactive and getting an evaluation with an oral surgeon can enable prompt treatment, prevent complications, and give you comfort knowing your health is protected.

Oral Pathology: What to Expect
Since oral pathology encompasses a wide range of conditions, from minor irritations to severe diseases, treatment plans are always tailored to your unique and individual needs. Here’s a general overview of what the process typically includes:
Consultation & Evaluation
Your visit begins with a comprehensive exam by one of our oral and maxillofacial surgeons. We’ll review your symptoms, health history, and thoroughly examine the affected area using visual inspection and imaging if needed.
Diagnosis
If the condition appears benign and doesn’t require immediate intervention, we may recommend monitoring with regular check-ins. If further evaluation is needed, a biopsy may be recommended to obtain a tissue sample for microscopic examination by the pathologist. Oftentimes, we have same-day biopsy availability.
Biopsy
A sample or complete removal of the affected soft or bony tissue is collected and sent to a pathologist. Examination of the cellular structure of the tissue helps confirm the presence of any disease, infection, or abnormality, whether benign or malignant.
Results & Treatment Plan
Once results are available, your specialist will explain the findings and recommend appropriate next steps. This may include additional medical or surgical treatment, continued observation, or a referral to another specialist if needed.

Our team is here for you at every step, monitoring your oral health and healing, answering questions, and ensuring you’re fully supported throughout your care.
