Domestic violence is a concern in every community. Carolinas Center for Cosmetic Surgery developed this program to help survivors of domestic abuse feel empowered by their bravery and regain confidence in themselves. As we seek to raise awareness about domestic violence in the Carolinas and help those impacted, a local resident was selected as our first recipient to receive free restorative care.
Marvee, a banking specialist from Greenville, bravely shared the story of her assault. As a result, she now lives with knocked out teeth, a fractured nose, and several scars. The effects of what she has endured have greatly impacted her self-esteem and Marvee feels self-conscious about her face and smile. She wrote, “I feel like I lost so much of myself that night. I’m doing my best to not let this stop me and use it to push myself further to heal not only physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as well. I just want to be happy when I look in the mirror and not constantly reminded of what was taken from me.”
Today, she is working on her AAS in Accounting and has already received her Small Business Accounting Certificate—all while being a full-time single parent, full-time employee, and fighting depression.
We hope that by providing this restorative treatment we can help Marvee begin her journey of healing and renewed self-confidence.
