At Carolinas Center for Cosmetic Surgery, we offer laser hair removal to permanently remove unwanted hair from virtually any part of the body. We use the GentleMax Pro® from Candela to remove hair safely and comfortably.

We offer single sessions as well as packages of 7 sessions. While the number of sessions can vary, the average amount is between 7 and 10 sessions.

During your consultation, your aesthetician will discuss your goals for treatment and assess the areas to be treated. The beauty of our GentleMax Pro is that it works well on all skin tones as it utilizes both Nd:YAG and Alexandrite wavelengths. What Is Laser Hair Removal?

This treatment is safe and effective for all skin types. When done by a licensed professional, the risk of side effects is reduced. Laser hair removal requires no downtime after the appointment. However, avoiding sun exposure and wearing SPF 30 or higher is recommended after treatment.

It is nonsurgical, noninvasive, and we ensure you feel comfortable throughout the laser treatment. This treatment has a high level of precision, eliminating the risk of damaging the surrounding skin. With predictable results and quick treatment times, laser hair removal has helped men and women achieve smoother skin and eliminate unwanted facial hair. If you are tired of tweezing, waxing, or shaving, we highly recommend having our specialists safely laser away unwanted hair for smooth, longer lasting results.

Which Is Better: Laser Hair Removal or Waxing?

Many people claim laser hair removal is more comfortable than traditional hair removal methods, such as waxing or tweezing. Laser removal can also prevent ingrown hairs, which is a common problem following shaving or waxing. This is because the laser completely destroys the hair follicle, eliminating the risk of painful ingrown hairs. Results from laser treatment last longer than waxing.

How Laser Hair Removal Works

This hair removal method uses a concentrated beam of light from a laser to remove hair. The light is absorbed by pigment, or melanin, in the hair. The light energy damages the hair follicles, which stops current hair growth and inhibits future growth. Lasers are attracted to pigment and are most effective when removing dark hair.

Multiple initial laser treatments are necessary for smoother results or on larger areas. Laser hair removal does not always permanently remove the hair. Over time, the hair may re-grow. Maintenance treatments are ideal for longer results.

The Laser Hair Removal Process

How to Prepare

Avoiding sun exposure and wearing SPF 30 or higher is recommended both before and after treatment. Laser hair removal cannot be performed on tanned skin. No sun exposure, tanning bed, or sunless tanner for 7–10 days prior to treatment.

PATIENTS SHOULD ARRIVE WITH THE AREA FRESHLY SHAVED, as there should not be any hair above the skin level. *NO WAXING, TWEEZING OR USE OF DEPILLATORIES FOR AT LEAST 6 WEEKS PRIOR TO BEGINNING LASER SESSIONS.

What to Expect During Treatment

We will give you special goggles to wear to protect your eyes. Your specialist will press a handheld laser device against the skin. You may feel warm pricks, but little to no discomfort overall. After the treatment we will apply a cooling gel or serum to soothe the skin. Small areas will take only a few minutes while larger areas, such as the upper back, will take longer.

Aftercare

Laser hair removal requires no downtime after the appointment. Some redness is normal following treatment, but this will subside in a few hours. You can use ice packs or we may provide a special cream to apply. You should avoid direct sunlight and do not use a tanning bed for 6 weeks. It is very important to use proper sun protection, as your freshly treated skin is more sensitive to sunlight.

Over the next few weeks, you will shed the treated hair. Hair growth is a cycle and once the new cycle begins, you can return for treatment. Laser hair removal is most effective on hair follicles in the new-growth stage.

Why See a Cosmetic Specialist?

At-home lasers can be purchased, but they are not as powerful or efficient as professional lasers. Home treatment may be uneven, and if a laser is not used correctly, you could damage the skin. See the professionals at Carolinas Center for Cosmetic Surgery for optimum results, safe treatment, and to ensure the targeted areas are treated evenly.
