The inaugural Cleft Out Foundation 5k was held on November 2, 2019, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The race was an opportunity to raise awareness for the foundation and provide funding for cleft care in the local community. The Cleft Out Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that helps Charlotte-area families to meet the many financial needs associated with treating children born with Cleft Lip & Palate.
With a goal of over 100 participants, the Cleft Out Foundation exceeded its expectations. Both runners and walkers showed up for the race on a chilly Saturday morning. Children who have benefitted from the organization’s grants and their families waited at the finish line to cheer on everyone as they crossed the finish line.
In addition to the hot food served by the Breakfast Catering Company food truck, coffee, and hot chocolate helped to warm the chilly runners, while live music and a raffle kept them entertained after the event. The race was made possible by several generous sponsors including KLS Martin Group, Carolinas Center for Oral & Facial Surgery, Connolly Orthodontics, Quimby & Collins Orthodontics, First Citizens Bank, Signature FD, Chad Johnson Orthodontics, Novant Health, Spradley Wood Designs, Drake Laboratories, and Jasper Dentistry. Enthusiastic volunteers donated their time and effort to support the charity run.
The 2019 Cleft Out Foundation 5k successfully raised enough money to be able to fund cleft-related medical grants for years to come! We are thrilled with the community support and thank all participants, volunteers, and sponsors for supporting our mission.
