What is Xeomin?

Xeomin is a type of botulinum treatment that reduces the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Like BOTOX® and Dysport®, Xeomin works by temporarily paralyzing muscles, preventing them from contracting and forming lines or wrinkles. The difference, however, is that Xeomin’s active ingredient is botulinum toxin type A and has been formulated without any protein additives. A Xeomin injection delivers only the toxin without accessory proteins for a more purified injectable treatment.

Xeomin allows for the reduced appearance of frown lines between the eyebrows while keeping the rest of the face naturally expressive. It received FDA approval for use in glabellar lines in 2011 and has helped many men and women feel more confident.

Benefits of Xeomin

  • Treat moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows
  • With less additives, risk factors of an allergic reaction are reduced
  • Smooth away lines while maintaining natural facial movement
  • Minimally invasive and no downtime
  • Many users see results in 3–4 days

Xeomin Procedure, Results, Side Effects

Treatment takes about 10 minutes and you can resume your normal activities right away. Many people stop in for their injectable treatment during their lunch break. The needle is very fine, so anesthesia is often not necessary. We may apply a topical numbing cream for your comfort.

Most patients report noticeable improvement with 2–3 days of treatment, with results lasting up to 3 months. The results of Xeomin are temporary, so you can stop treatment at any point or continue your injections about every 3 months. Side effects from Xeomin can include allergic reactions, headaches, muscle weakness, or drooping eyelids.

Frequently Asked Questions: Xeomin

What’s the difference between Xeomin and BOTOX?

BOTOX and Xeomin effectively treat lines and wrinkles, but they are two products with several differences. Xeomin is a “naked” toxin and does not contain accessory proteins like BOTOX. Without extra proteins, users are less likely to develop antibodies and build up immunity to treatments. Some people who have used BOTOX for a while may notice that it’s not working as effectively as before and turn to Xeomin.

The onset of results may differ between BOTOX and Xeomin. In some cases, BOTOX results will show a day or so earlier than Xeomin results. Finally, because Xeomin does not contain additional additives, it does not require refrigeration before use, unlike BOTOX. This makes Xeomin easier to distribute and store.

How many units of Xeomin do I need?

The recommended dose of Xeomin is 20 units per treatment: 5 equal injections of 4 units each. We will make one injection above each eyebrow, and then three injections in between the eyebrows. We may adjust the number of units depending on your needs and the areas you want to treat. For example, treating crow’s feet may only require 5 units, and treating deep forehead lines may require up to 40 units.

Who is not a good candidate for Xeomin?

Xeomin is great for men and women over the age of 18 who want to reduce the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines. Xeomin is not recommended if you are allergic to botulinum toxin or any other ingredients in Xeomin.

Which lasts longer, BOTOX or Xeomin?

The results of BOTOX and Xeomin last roughly the same amount of time. BOTOX will usually last between 3–4 months, and Xeomin will last about 3 months.
